Radio Milwaukee will host a wine and music pairing tasting experience this week.
Samples & Samples, hosted by Radio Milwaukee, will feature sommelier Derrick C. Westbrook, former beverage director of Michelin-starred restaurant Elizabeth in Chicago, along with a curated music set from Milwaukee native and Chicago-based musician DJ Odd Couple. The event will have guests feature the ground-to-grape journey of wine paired with music to create a full sensory experience.
The ground-to-grape journey from Samples & Samples is meant to give attendees a bigger picture of the journey of wine and make wine more accessible to BIPOC communities — in line with the Milwaukee Wine Academy’s mission.
Westbrook has been hosting Samples & Samples around the country. He is the first African American to be on the cover of Wine Enthusiast magazine and was named one its “40 Under 40 Tastemakers.”
Plant-based vegan food will also be available to purchase from Milwaukee’s Black-owned Twisted Plants. Kombucha from Wisconsin’s first Black brewery, My Soul Brew Kombucha, will also be sold at the event.
The event is part of the Milwaukee Wine Academy and will serve as a fundraiser for HFYIN, Milwaukee’s only urban alternative radio station.
Samples & Samples will be held at Radio Milwaukee, 220 E. Pittsburgh Ave, on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 7:30-9 p.m.
Tickets are available to purchase at $60 for general admission and $100 for VIP reserved seating. Both tickets include a tasting glass to take home.
