Gov. Tony Evers announced that millions will be invested in five buildings across Wisconsin to support economic activity.
Over $36 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds will be invested in five buildings across multiple cities in Wisconsin in an effort to bolster economic activity. The investments are projected to support over 400 jobs and $68 million in Janesville, Milwaukee, Door County and Green Bay, according to a statement from Gov. Evers.
“These five projects will have a long-term impact on our state’s economy and on economic development in these communities from Green Bay to Janesville,” said Gov. Evers in a statement. “From creating a premier cultural tourism destination to welcome visitors from across our state and country to providing educational and entertainment opportunities for students and visitors folks of all ages, these projects were clearly missed opportunities during the Capital Budget process, and the economic impact of these investments will pay dividends for our future economic success.”
A study done from the Associated General Contractors reported that for every $1 spent, the state sees $1.81 in economic activity, according to the statement.
The largest investment of $15 million will go to the Janesville Sports & Convention Center. The investment is projected to generate $23 million in new economic impact for the community and provide regional revenue for in-state athletic events.
Two investments will go to Milwaukee with $9.3 and $5 million. The larger investment will go to the Iron District’s new soccer stadium which will become home to the city’s new professional team in 2025. The $5 million investment will go to the Bronzeville Center for the Arts. The arts center on Milwaukee’s north side in the new Bronzeville district aims to capture Milwaukee’s Black history and culture.
$7 million will go to the Green Bay National Railroad Museum to meet the growing need for museum offerings, accessibility and immersive programming.
The smallest investment of $300,000 will go to the Door County Peninsula Players’ Theatre for upgrades. The investment will provide safe and modern facilities.
The five buildings to receive investments were recommended by Gov. Evers in his 2023-25 Capital Budget but were not included by legislative Republicans in the final budget.
