SSM to build outpatient surgery center in Sun Prairie

In a press release Wednesday, SSM Health announced plans to build a new Ambulatory Surgery Center on our existing Sun Prairie campus at 2840 O’Keeffe Avenue, expected to open in 2025.

SSM announced that it will also relocate its Regent Street Davis Duehr Dean Eye Care and Retail Optical Services, as well as its Madison Optical Laboratory, to this new location. The new surgery center will also offer additional operating rooms to provide eye and orthopedic outpatient surgical services.

“A growing, thriving city, Sun Prairie attracts people from a number of surrounding communities, and we are invested in growing with it,” Sue Anderson, SSM Health Regional President, said in a statement. “Our new center will alleviate some of the growing constraints we are facing on our SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Madison campus, allowing us to open access for more timely care when and where our patients need it.”

“The opportunity to keep our clinic, surgery center and Madison optical lab in a single location will allow us to continue our exceptional patient care, prepare us for future growth and improve the patient experience with this new Eye Center of Excellence,” Dr. Julia Agapov, SSM Health Wisconsin Regional Medical Director for Eye Care Services, said in a statement. “Our entire team is excited to have the space to continue to advance eye care services for the greater Madison area.”

Building out additional surgical space will help SSM Health to continue to meet the growing demands for outpatient surgical services, according to the press release.

“In our community where people want to remain active for much longer, the demand for joint replacements and other orthopedic services that keep them active and engaged continues to rise,” Dr. Jay Christensen, SSM Health orthopedic surgeon, said in a statement. “It will be great to have an additional location where we can provide that care that our patients deserve and expect.”

SSM Health currently has a free-standing emergency center on the site of the new campus expansion. As part of this project, SSM will consolidate those emergency services to the existing Level 2 Trauma Center at St. Mary’s Hospital – Madison.

Patients will be able to access emergency services at the Level 2 Trauma Center at St. Mary’s – Madison. Urgent Care services also are available nearby at our Dean Medical Group clinic on Madison’s east side at 1821 S. Stoughton Road. Primary/Specialty Care services will continue to be available at the Dean Medical Group – Sun Prairie clinic located at 10 Tower Drive.
