Casa Hispana opens scholarship applications in the Fox Valley

Casa Hispana of Fox Valley has officially opened applications for their scholarship program made to empower Latinx students seeking higher education at universities or in trades.

The scholarship is aimed at Hispanic or Latinx identifying students in Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago County pursuing post-secondary education. Awards are $500 for students at trade schools and $1,000 at universities.

Casa Hispana is a nonprofit in the Fox Valley area that aims to empower Hispanic and Latinx communities through advancing awareness, education and celebrating their culture. The nonprofit has seen multiple iterations since 1992 under Latino Link founded by members of United Migrant Opportunity Services. The group found the need to move past just scholarships with Fox Valley’s growing Hispanic and Latinx community to start Casa Hispana to try and meet the needs of Fox Valley’s residents.

The application looks at demographic information of the applicant, academic and co-curricular transcripts, acceptance letters to programs, two letters of recommendation, employment history, financial plan to pay for education and an essay from one of three prompts.

Applications for the scholarship are due July 31. DACA and undocumented students are encouraged to apply. Additional information can be found on Casa Hispana’s website.
