Nonprofit community organization Rooted announced in a Facebook post Tuesday that Sebastian Hassell will be the new Assistant Farm Manager at Troy Farm, helping to manage the crew and doing the important day to day work of growing the food at at Troy Farm.
Hassell is from a small town in south Alabama where he learned and gained experience with growing, harvesting, and storing food from an early age, according to the post. He attended Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University where he earned a B.A. in Political Science and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP). Over the years, he has been involved in community building and grassroots organizing work in a variety of ways. Outside of work, Sebastian is currently focused on building his business and using his skills to serve Black and Brown LGBTQ+ folks.
